Discover the incredible powers, emotional backstories, and future potential of the top five spirit forms in the world of Dandadan. From magical hair drills to umbrella powers fueled by brotherly love, each character brings something unique to the table. Let’s dive in!

5. Ren: The Gravity-Defying Songstress

Starting our list is Ren, the sweet and determined class representative from Okaron’s school. Ren unlocked her gravity-controlling powers through her captivating voice, but there’s a catch—she can only activate them by singing in bikini armor.

Ren’s Powers Explained:

When trapped in the cursed Fairy Tale Cardio Kai board game, Ren’s singing allowed her to control gravity, ultimately helping everyone escape. But her power comes with limitations. If she’s interrupted mid-performance, her abilities vanish instantly.

The Spirit Behind the Song:

Ren’s powers are connected to Ma, a guardian spirit and a childhood friend. Ren had once dreamed of being a singer but gave up after Ma passed away. When Ma was freed from the curse, she became Ren’s protector.

Future Potential:

What’s next for Ren? Will she unlock new techniques, like manipulating gravity with an opera-style performance? Could she make Okaron fly during combat for surprise attacks? The possibilities are endless.

4. Unji: The Umbrella Guardian

Next up is unji, whose powers stem from a heartbreaking tragedy involving his younger brother.

Unji’s Powers and Origin:

Anji’s brother drowned while trying to retrieve his beloved umbrella from a river during a storm. In his final moments, his spirit fused with the umbrella, granting Anji incredible abilities.

Abilities of the Umbrella Yokai:

  • Flight: Anji can use his umbrella to soar through the sky.
  • Shockwave Attacks: With a flick of his umbrella, he can send out destructive shockwaves.
  • Defensive Barriers: The umbrella can also create powerful protective shields.

The Downside:

Unji can only use his powers twice in a row before they become unusable. Overuse could even destroy his body, as seen during the Fairy Tale Cardio Kai battle.

The Board Game Curse:

During the Danmara Arc, Anji unintentionally set the Fairy Tale Cardio Kai free, leading to chaos. The yo-kai manipulated Anji and used his powers to escape its prison.

3. AIra Shiratori: The Acrobatic Hair Ninja

At third place is AIra Shiratori, a classmate of Okaron who developed extraordinary powers thanks to the spirit Acrobatic Silky.

Silky’s Tragic Backstory:

Silky was a mother who lost her child and died from grief. When Ira’s mother passed away, aIra, still a child, mistook Silky for her mother. Silky waited for Ira to return for over a decade.

Ira’s Powers:

After Silky sacrificed her aura to revive aIra, she gained incredible abilities:

  1. Ninja Hair: Ira’s hair grows infinitely, can grab objects, and even drill through walls.
  2. Acrobat Moves: Her agility allows her to perform insane flips and stunts.
  3. Powerful Kicks: With incredible leg strength, Ira can deliver bone-crushing blows.

Weakness:

If Ira’s movements are restricted, her powers become useless, as seen during her battle with the cursed music room portraits.

2. Okaron: The Turbo-Charged Spirit Fighter

Our runner-up is the protagonist Okaron (Kent Takakura), who inherited his powers from Turbo Granny.

How Did Okaron Get His Powers?

In an attempt to prove spirits weren’t real, Okaron entered a spirit tunnel and met Turbo Granny, who cursed him and… stole his manhood.

Okaron’s Abilities:

  1. Hyper Speed: He can run at speeds exceeding 100 km/h.
  2. Jaw Strength: His bite can crush enemies in close combat.
  3. Enhanced Defense: Okaron can tank heavy attacks with minimal damage.

The Limits of His Power:

  • Okaron’s transformation has a time limit.
  • Overusing his abilities can leave him vulnerable in critical moments.
  • He lacks self-healing abilities, making every injury a significant risk.

The Turbo Granny Theory:

Why does Turbo Granny steal men’s “family jewels”? One theory suggests it’s because of her tragic exposure to male cruelty in the tunnel.

1. Jiii: The Beast Mode Powerhouse

Taking the top spot is jiji, the charismatic chatterbox who becomes a cold, unstoppable monster in spirit mode.

The Evil Eye’s Origins:

The Evil Eye spirit was once a young boy sacrificed by the Keto Family for their superstitions. After being burned alive, he became a vengeful spirit with an insatiable hatred for humanity.

Gigi’s Abilities:

  1. Highwave: A burst of energy capable of repelling powerful enemies.
  2. Evil Gun: A devastating energy beam attack.
  3. Beast Mode: When splashed with cold water, Gigi transforms into the Evil Eye spirit, losing control entirely.

Control Mechanism:

Hot water can suppress the Evil Eye’s power, reflecting traditional Japanese folklore where fire and heat purify negative spirits.
